Repositories in Belfast & Dublin
|
The Public Record Office, Belfast. The General Register Office, Belfast. The Linen Hall Library, Belfast. Presbyterian Historical Society, Belfast. The National Archives, Dublin. The National Library of Ireland, Dublin. The Registry of Deeds, Dublin. The General Register Office, Dublin. Of all the repositories in Ireland this has to be the most challenging and the most frustrating of them all. To start, their office hours are appalling. The office is opened to the public, Monday to Friday from 9.30 A.M. to 12.30 P.M., it closes for lunch from 12.30 P.M. to 2.15 P.M., and you have to be off the premises by 4.30P.M., and if you find what you are looking for, they will only allow you to purchase a maximum of five certificates or photocopies of five certificates per day. Their postal service for small (five or under) numbers of certificates is improving, but for larger numbers (six or more) it is still very poor. If you need ten or fifteen copies it would be advisable to recruit three friends and write separately.
